Head of Development

Imagineer Systems is seeking a Head of Development, to lead further development of our highly successful mocha product family. Reporting to the CEO, you will be responsible for leading the work of our small, geographically distributed development team. This is not a purely management role: you will also be fully involved in programming tasks, and must be a C++ guru with significant experience of visual effects software development.

Our development team uses an agile approach based on Scrum, and you will be responsible for organising and facilitating this process.

As Head of Development, you will be a publicly visible member of the team and this is a great opportunity for the right candidate to advance their career in visual effects.

Responsibilities include

  • Lead the software development team
  • Plan and execute new feature and maintenance releases
  • Involvement in company technology strategy
  • Liase with the sales and marketing team on new feature developments
  • Regular programming activities such as fixing bugs and implementing new features
  • Overseeing the build management and release process

Experience Required

  • Significant software engineering experience - minimum of eight years relevant work
  • Previous experience working on software for film or video post-production
  • Previous experience as a team leader or similar management role
  • Expert skills in C++ development with an emphasis on artistic tools rather than faceless daemons.
  • Experience with cross-platform development is vital
  • Experience with Nokia Qt would be beneficial
  • Experience with Scrum or other Agile methodologies would be beneficial
  • You should be current with the state of the art in visual effects technology and have a thorough understanding of the issues involved in writing visual effects software.

Person Profile

  • Confident, with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Our development team is split between the UK and Russia, with other business functions in the USA and Australia, so you will be adept at juggling time zones and getting work done in this kind of environment.
  • Our company is very approachable and supportive of our customers, you can be flexible and prepared to accept someone else's opinion.
  • You're a pragmatist who is just as happy to build on open-source or third-party technologies as you are inventing something yourself.

Location

  • Guildford, United Kingdom
  • Non-local candidates will be considered, after training in Guildford, this job could be done remotely

Salary will be commensurate with experience.
